RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE

Burnaby, BC

The client loved their existing home but wanted an updated space that would reflect their desire for a modern home which could take advantage of the views to the north.

Project Scope

By listening and through our careful design, Smithcraft Architecture able to achieve this goal and give our client exactly what they wanted. It’s hard to believe this is a renovation once you see the original home!

The Result

Originally, the client wanted the bedrooms on the upper floor, but we convinced the client to invert the house and place the bedrooms in the basement where it is darker and quieter and have the public main spaces on the main level of the home. As an added feature, we opened the stair, and this allowed for the design to reflect the south light into the basement making it feel brighter during the day. We also raised the main floor and roof so that the basement would feel larger, and the main level would be light filled and grand.
